Mission and Vision

The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Our vision at Communities In Schools of Wilson County is to partner with schools, parents and the community so that students will succeed in school, work , community and life. We will accomplish this by providing programs and services to strengthen families, and graduate students prepared for higher education and meaningful employment.

Communities In Schools believes the formula for student success is ABC+P: attendance, behavior, coursework and parent/family engagement. Our trained student support specialists do this by partnering with school leadership, mobilizing the community to offer students extra support and doing whatever it takes to help them succeed. By bringing caring adults into the schools to address children’s unmet needs, CIS provides the link between educators and the community. The result: teachers are free to teach, and students – many in jeopardy of dropping out – have the opportunity to focus on learning.

CISNC Model 2015

Increased attendance, improved behavior, and satisfactory coursework, in addition to parent and family engagement, are the focus areas guiding our work. Collectively, we call it the ABC + P model. Our school-based Student Support Specialists identify students in danger of not achieving their potential, assess student needs and provide wrap-around interventions and resources to change outcomes.
